A British Masterpiece.

This is a page from a famous British illuminated manuscript called the 'Lichfield Gospels'. It was written somewhere in Wales in about AD 730. It belonged to the Abbey of Llandeilo Fawr, before being taken to Lichfield Cathedral in the 10th century. It is sometimes called the 'Book of Teilo' or the 'Book of Chad'. This page shows St. Luke. The patterns are not quite as detailed as those in the 'Lindisfarne Gospels,' but it is still very beautiful. The 'Lichfield Gospels' are kept at Lichfield Cathedral in Staffordshire.
