The Minstrel
Follows his Lord around

  • This is the home of Frithestan the Scop (pronounced 'Shop'). A scop is a Saxon minstrel.
  • He works for the thane (lord) of this village. He sings in the thane's great hall and often sleeps there, but he also likes his privacy and has his own grub-hut just outside the gates.
  • He is not there much as he travels round with the thane to his different lands.
  • He recites poems, tells stories, sings songs and plays music to entertain the thane, his family and his guests. He has a few other jobs too.
  • His favourite story is 'Beowulf'.
