Guriat, King of Ynys Manaw
(Born c.AD 750)
(Welsh: Gwriad; Latin: Guriatus; English: Guriat)

Guriat was the son of King Elidyr map Sandde. He inherited the Crown of Man in the late 8th century when the local population was a vast mixture of the British and the Irish. His lasting memorial is the well-known Guriat Cross, originally erected near Maughold in the North of the Island.

He married, Esyllt, daughter and heiress of King Cynan Dindaethwy of Gwynedd and was succeeded by their son, Merfyn Frych.

King Guriat's memorial cross dates from the 9th century. He is clearly an historic personage.
